I am taking my second class for Comp Sci in college. I have used PyCharm last year and this year my professor recommends Visual Code. I was wondering what is the best code editor softwares available for free and why would they be better than these two.

I assume you mean Visual Studio Code? Yeah, those are both good. Honestly it doesn't matter much beyond personal preference and it won't impact your productivity much. They are all fairly similar and good programmers learn to use multiple IDEs. Just find something you like and that works for you now.
