there are varying levels of addiction but they all stem to happy chemicals.
if something makes you feel good, you enjoy the taboo feel of being very involved with it then you would become addicted to chasing it

I don't believe it's an addiction with everyone, but there's definitely such a thing as "too much" and I'm sure there's been people that have let it take over their lives.
