What are the games that at first sight looked poor in terms of quality and/or graphics but turned out to have great mechanics, great characters and story and in general a pack of fun?

I thought the VR game Fisherman's Tale would be so-so but it ending up having a great story and concept. It has a very french, Amelie-style fantasy aspect to it that's very cool. It's just a short adventure game though.
