I just finished reading Dune for the first time, (will upload ebook if needed). What's your opinion of the series? Are the next 5 books worth reading?

I liked all the original saga, but Children of Dune was my favorite! 

I find the new ones by his sons so-so though...

Yes, but they have Audible versions as well which can be easier to knock out during other daily activities like commuting or working out.

The original dune series of 6 books is good. It should be noted that the 6th book ends with a bit of a cliffhanger that was never properly developed since the author died. His son did a lot of prequel series and even a sequel that "concluded" book 7 based on notes he found from a safe that belonged to his dad but they are not as good as the original 6.  The son is just not as good of an author/writer and a lot of the story feels patched together.
I think the first 3 Dune novels could be considered one story and the other 3 another. I enjoyed them.
