Either is good for beginners. Find something you want to work on and choose the right language for that.

For example if you like Minecraft, then start with Java to code Minecraft plugins.

If you want to try AI stuff, do Python.

I'd say Python is more friendly for beginners than Java.
If you already have some knowledge of OOP, you could start with Java
