If you are starting, ignore Java right away. Google is pushing Kotlin for Android development. I switched over from Java to Kotlin, just because you save so much time writing less code. Less code also means fewer errors.
Get started with Kotlin here and work you way through the codelabs. There are also free Udacity courses by Google Employees
