i have a gaming laptop for when i travel that gets very hot. anyone have any suggestions (software/hardware) to keep my cpu cool?

If you have the time/inclination maybe do a repast; or pay someone to do it since laptops are hard to work with. There's not much other than that or just put it on a laptop holder with a fan

Depending on your laptop, if you haven't cleaned your CPU fan you should be able to access the CPU fan from the bottom of your laptop, it should be just a simple panel next to your battery and ostensibly is the one covering the CPU/RAM access. You should use compressed air to clean off the dust from your CPU fan and the grate that's covering it, then also if the issue persists then also invest in an external laptop fan or at least use your laptop on a stand off so that air can circulate underneath it while gaming.

You need to check your fans to make sure they're still spinning at full speed. It sounds like your fans might have worn out and need to be replaced. The good news is that those fans are cheap to replace. The bad news is that some laptops are a pain in the ass to open up.

Dust is the enemy. And make sure your CPU still has decent amount of thermal paste. I personally got a little fan thingy that hooks up to my laptop's 'exhaust' port. its dropped my temp by about 30F

I would check your fans and make sure your laptop is not dusty on the inside. You can see if your laptop comes with a program that can increase your fan speeds for you or see if you can change it in BIOS. Also see what temps or usage your fans speed up at and maybe lower the requirement. Your laptop will be louder but will stay cool longer.
