I've actually stumbled on this from a while back, but I found the 4th Stage (Civilization) of Spore to be a very unique experience, and no game until now has come to scratch that very specific itch. Sure, there's Civilization and Age of Empires that came close, but I didn't find anything to have as similar of an experience.

Any recommendations you guys have?

There's other games in the 4X genre like Civ such as Endless Legend and Northgard. Otherwise Niche is kinda like Spore, I have it on Steam but haven't had time to play it yet
