Heard that software engineers in finance get paid a lot, and the work is not too different from other programming jobs. Anyone work in that field can comment about work life balance and pay and such?

They definitely do get paid a lot, have a mate in the field that earned $100k fresh out of uni as a grad. However the work life balance is not great, he regularly has 9am to 9pm days. It really just depends on what you want, for me the work life balance is not worth the pay.

Go full out VBA and or R both can be very useful in finance.
