I loved the first Top Gun but found Maverick to be an unfaithful sequel. As a technical feat it's amazing and has a great story arc but can't shake this feeling that it doesn't fall in line with the original Top Gun. Anyone else feel this way?

It has elements from the original, it's modernized a bit to fit current audience tastes.  I enjoyed it.
