What happened to Empornium?
#1
I had an account 10+ years ago when it was under the .us TLD, but what happened? I see there are now references to it under various TLDs and they even have a twitter account? Just want a history of how it got to where it is now if anyone knows, Googling brought up nothing for me.

The old version of Empornium from the mid 2000s? IIRC, the admin that ran it had some kind of business connection with this Jewish ad firm/business that wasn't exactly the greatest for Empornium. The ad firm wanted to monetize the user base in some form or another, and he told them to fuck off, but they told him to hand over the list. So he literally nuked all of Empornium to make sure that user data didn't get into the hands of this business. And that was the end of Empornium v.1. I was on that version of Empornium, and that seems like ages ago, so the details are kind of hazy in my head. But that's what I remember of that drama. That version of Empornium had a really awesome community, too. And as long as you uploaded more than you downloaded

This current version of Empornium I don't know a thing about, aside from them using the same logo as from v.1. The last I heard, they have a large enough user base, and are not planning on adding other users, though I don't know if that means that they don't do invites from trusted users. I hope the community in this new version is as good as the old version. I miss the old Empornium community.

I thought it was a porn site.

I think the owners shut it down to pursue another venture

That goes without saying. It was set up to torrent everything users posted, rather than Mega/Anonfiles/etc like here. The community was a whole lot closer, and there was some seriously good quality amateur porn posted. Original shit too, not just what you could repost from amateur websites back then.

They didn't run it as a business as this place is. They paid their own bills, but I remember them saying not to PayPal them and shit, as they had things taken care of. He didn't want to nuke the site, but it was the only way of making sure that ad agency didn't get a hold of the user base.
