So over a year after my original thread, prices have dropped slightly, but still $2/lb for weights and bars and other equipment are still mostly out of sale or super inflated in price.

How about your areas? Any improvements?

Nope. Everything is the same inflated prices. Hit up Craigslist, I've seen some good deals on used weights, including from closing gyms.

You're better at buying secondhand gear. It's just weights, right? Can't malfunction.

The issue is the main material, iron/steel, is in demand for so many different products.
