The beginning of infinity by david deutsch - one of the best books of the last few decades

a song of ice and fire is a great collection (sadly the end of GoT and the book series being incomplete has given it kind of a bad rep). but they're pretty long so can take a while to get through (also doing a re-read to see all the foreshadowing and hints at what's to come is great!)
