Are movie theaters dead?
#1
Even when the pandemic is over  you have to imagine tons of theaters have already shut down, and this only accelerated an existing trend. I think they won't exist in their current form in 5 years.

Personally I hope so. Tired of their forced necessity and low quality of experience. If everything moved to day one VOD I'd be chill with that. I think some "luxury" theaters playing nothing but Fathom Event type things for fun excursions would still be good however. But for new releases I hate them.

#3
I'm thinking the opposite. I've heard a lot of people say that they're missing going to the movies. There's always going to be a market for people who want to go a day out and watch a new release on a big screen.

#4
Well movie theatres may be dead but real venues plan to open summer this year. I for one am stoked to go back and see a concert in person. ~jamming intensifies~

#5
Drive ins are still busy though, I'm sure movies will be around for a while.

#6
I hope not. It's one of the things I miss the most.

#7
I think movie theaters provide a specific experience and people don't go there only for the movie.

#8
with the pandemic going on and from most movies coming out straight to DVD and streaming services i think they may be for next 3-4 years possibly

#9
They kinda are , I mean .... Theaters are almost dead but they have a loyal public.

#10
I dont think they are. Imo watching a movie there is different than at home like its more real and im more in the movie.

#11
I think theyre slowly dying out

#12
IMO they should be. Most cinemas (commercial ones) run on overpriced food and drinks, unlike family run theatres. That business strategy is extremely out of date/unsustainable given the world's current pandemic situation. Even if people get vaccinated or not, there'll still be a lack of people going out to watch movies in theatres, when they can just as easily watch movies at home (increase in streaming services cause of corona). I think they'll prob end up selling out half a movie theatre or less per movie if they are open after all this.

#13
I haven't been to the movies in a long time. With the arrival of online streaming services, I would say that movie theaters do have a challenge to make something better

#14
i think movie theaters will stay open, nothing beats a giant screen with amazing sounds

#15
idk i feel like covids never gonna end
