Best Movie Adaptations of Video Games?
#1
Generally, movie versions of video games are terrible lol. I was thinking about this with the new Mortal Kombat trailer that came out, but what are some other movie versions of video games?

The decent ones that come to mind from the last couple of years for me are Detective PIkachu and Sonic the Hedgehog. There were also some that were not as good, like Monster Hunter.

What else has come out that was actually decent?
Please like, reply, and give credits! Smile

There are few good video game movies, not just ones from Hollywood. However, Detention (2019) based on the Taiwan indie horror game, is good.

Agreed with above comment. Do not know of many good video game movies as most are either meh/alright and the rest are just not good.

gotta be resident evil and the original mortal kombat, right? ... right?

Mortal Kombat was the most accurate adaptation of a VG film. Then came Silent Hill. Since then while Detective Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog are fun films, they're still not like their games made manifest into films. But...I've also felt that the Fifth Element was a far better Final Fantasy movie than Spirits Within.

They need to make a metal gear solid movie

I think they are? And the guy who played Po Dameron was casted to be Snake.

I personally liked detective Pikachu, did a good job of adding to the pokemon world cinematically while telling a reasonable enough story for said world

As long as nobody talks about the Monster Hunter movie

Oh yeah... Monster Hunter movie does exists. Forgot about that... Also forgot about PoP and Assassin's Creed and now everything is coming back...^^

Since we got a lot better at computing VFX (and since Uwe Bole can't abuse german founds for independent cultural projects or whatever was making him money at the time), the future seems brighter for video game adaptations. It's not always easy to adapt story-light games (Hitman films are basically "bad" Hitman players running around gunning for funzies :p ), at least not in a faithful way. But we have two story-heavy ones coming that I'm trying to carefully not get excited about. The Uncharted one that I hope is just a decent Indiana Jones movie (there is a name for that genre and I don't have it now) and Sleeping Dogs, which is still in limbos I think but would be such a great dirty Hong Kong nightmare... There was an amateur promotional live-action made years ago that gave a taste for it and, sometimes, I'm just a sucker for simple asian modern vibes...^^
