Why can I only sometimes select brush size in GIMP? I didnt think I cha hed anything but I'm stick with default brush sizes

Bit off topic, but how is Gimp in comparison to Photoshop? I think I last used CS3 and I lost access to my key to it, so a free alternative for small projects would be nice.

It's better than nothing, but overall Photoshop has both more options and better user experience.

Depends what you want to do really. If it's simple stuff like adjusting colors on pictures, GIMP will be enough. If you want to create complicated stuff from scratch, PS will be a better option.
