Firstly just wanted to say sorry for my relatively long absensce from the site. Glad to see the community is doing as well as ever.

Just wanted to mention something I noticed about MEGA in the last week or so. 

MEGA has always been great for sharing because of the tools available and it is quite unique as a file sharing system. The only problem we've ever experienced with MEGA is that they kill off links too quickly.

MEGA links have a variable shelf life. Some links seem to last forever while others last about 24 hours before going dead. I noticed a while back that the links I create from my main account never go down but the links I create from my mirror accounts (the links that I share on this forum) go down fairly regularly (my links tend to stay active more than other people's links for some reason but mine still go down too eventually).

So there are a few theories with this... Either MEGA monitors links with a lot of traffic and then checks those links to see what content is inside them, or most of the links we post get reported by someone which is then actioned by MEGA.

If the former is true then it means that our files are not safe on MEGA and they are breaking privacy laws by monitoring our content (maybe this is allowed within their T&Cs, I haven't checked).

If the latter is true then it means we need to find a better way to share links so that people who always report them don't get a chance to.

The reason I bring this up is because many people have had their MEGA accounts terminated in recent weeks. This includes accounts with extra paid storage that were terminated without warning and all content inside is now lost forever. Some of the messages I have seen say "This account has been terminated for gross misuse of MEGA" or "This account has been terminated for child exploitation" etc.

Now, if someone is sharing child porn on MEGA then I definitely want that to be removed as soon as possible and for the people responsible to be reported to authorities. The problem is however that many people's accounts who have been terminated did not have any child porn (I know this because one of my mirror accounts was terminated for the same reason but there were only 10 videos on that account and they were all brazzers videos).

This raises the question... is MEGA cracking down on pirated/leaked porn in general? Or just responding to increased level of complaints due to the fact that 5TB of OnlyFans porn was leaked using MEGA and this became public knowledge?

In any case, I'm starting to feel weary about my MEGA subscription. I am going to start the process of migrating all my data to other locations so that I have backups incase MEGA decides to take my account down one day. There is absolutely no child porn on any of my accounts, but that doesn't seem to stop them.

I implore all community members to check their MEGA accounts and make sure there are NO traces of child porn on there because:
1. It is fucking disgusting and you shouldn't have it.
and
2. Many of the big leaked folders on here and many other sites sometimes have a hidden folder inside that have child porn. I have seen it myself on several leaks from this forum. It's sometimes difficult to notice because there will be a 500GB folder with 100mb of child porn inside but in any case you should check and remove.

We should continue to report bad people as a community but also be weary that MEGA operates like Big Brother and terminates accounts as they see fit.

When I say hidden folder, I don't mean that the folder is invisible. I just mean that some big leaks have hundreds of folders within them, and sometimes when you actually browse through everything you'll find a folder hidden within 12 other folders with some disgusting stuff in there like rape and child porn stuff.

My guess would be they are monitoring through the traffic and the number of reports

I have noticed loads of links dying all of a sudden and links not even lasting an hour before they are taken down for ToS actions when they are just the normal type of links. I assume they have gotten some backlash from the law so they are restricting the content that is saved on their servers. I personally wouldn't pay for an account with them but to each their own. Thank you for all the hard work and time you're putting into your hobby.

This has been an issue with mega for some time, and obviously they're being over-active because they're worried about the potential cost of litigation. Ultimately, sharing copyright protected property is an illegal action in most jurisdictions, so you're left looking for a company that is willing to provide you a filehosting service even if you use it to host material that exposes them to litigation. That's not impossible, but it's a tall order. The question is, which service can be migrated to that offers this, and also offers quality service.

Are people still getting these notices? I 100% agree with the stances on this website, I do see though were it does appear the occasional post slips through the cracks.  Then are are quickly removed, are there concerns of clicking these link prior to them being determined as inappropriate? Specifically on the HLB/Statewins section?
