I've seen many videos talking about how VPN's don't actually provide much security, you're just letting the VPN company see what you search for instead of your ISP. Does anyone know more about this?
Not sure if it actually does anything security-wise, but you could access region-locked content like games, apps or shows. That's really all I use it for.
The trick should be to select a VPN who will not store your data. So yes, they could monitor you, but they might not. If they don't store your access data, there is no way to prove if it was you who visited a certain site, even if they get subpoenead
Yeah VPNs are good for getting around region-locked content. There are some Netflix shows that only air in certain countries. They're also good for getting around any restrictions that a government places on the internet in certain countries like China or Turkey I've seen.
