Do you consider some animes pretty much masked hentai?
#1
Stumbled on anime called Redo of Healer and pretty much wondering, why was it even produced and aired on tv Big Grin I donť think I've ever seen anime viewing so much sex like this one. Iˇm not even surprised it also appears on hentai websites. Wish there was a longer true hentai version of it. Smile

Whats your opinion on this?

When is it legit storytelling exploring mature themes (and includes sex), and when is it just hentai trying for an edgy storyline?

Same reasoning as whether you consider GOT season 1 porn or not.

In my opinion this is not a good comparison or a good argument.

I think one of the main differences between porn an no porn entertainment is firstly the explicitly of what is shown and secondly how the shown is connected with the rest of the narrative.
A narrative don't have to show explicit sexual content to be mater. For example you don't have to show genitals for a sex scene or you can cut before the scene and lets the viewer's imagination do the rest. This is often more successful for the viewer investment than showing things. I think this is is true for sex and torture scenes.

I think your comparison is a weak one because in GOT there is sex shown in a specific way. Sex in GOT is as much as i remember shown as a normal part of this world and only in some episodes. Sex in GOT is not relevant to the Plot it is a part of human lifestyle.
In the mentioned Anime however sex is shown as torture method or rape and that in every or second episode. The fact that this anime is not explicit in what it shows is a attempt to bypass the classification "for adults". Thereby the anime can be shown at a better time slot on TV thereby more people can watch the Anime and the producer can make more money.

I thought that anime was softcore with a storyline, and that hentai was hardcore with something trying to pass as a storyline.

I mean it's a pretty basic concept to consider.  If it has ecchi in it or is an ecchi anime, then yes.. it was made for the reason of essentially being a teasing hentai "with a story" that's produced as an anime.  And pretty much does so on purpose and unapologetically.

If it's an anime that has practically no story to be seen anywhere, next to no or very bad humour or action for that matter, and just has a crapton of fanservice that's supposed to be 'funny' then yea it's basically hentai "masked" as anime just to get ratings.

An example of this would be Sin: nanatsu no taizai.  I actually somehow managed to watch this all the way through, and while it does have a story.. it is blatantly intended for full fanservice and ecchi.  Like that is clearly it's purpose for being made.  And honestly that's not a big deal, if it was called a hentai then it'd be a hentai.  If it's an anime that essentially has the same purpose, then who honestly cares?  it's still the viewers choice to watch it, for whatever reason, or not.

Sometimes the fanservice is a bit silly and over the top/unnecessary, but really only sjws and weiners who are uncomfortable about sex care about that kind of thing.  Like honestly (TL;DR) who gives af
