I currently use Nvidia DSR in all my media players like MPC-HC and Gom Player,  Pot Player, etc... and it basically upscales all my videos to 4k then back down to fit on my 1080p screen and the results are great, noticeably smoother, and sharper. 

However, I'm still using an older EVGA 1080 FTW2 card with no Ray Tracing or DLSS or Tensor Cores. And for my 60-inch Full HD 1080p screen this is fine. I'm pretty happy with the video quality. 
However, I'm really thinking seriously about upgrading my monitor and entire pc to catch up to the latest hardware and technologies; but also just wondering if this will be truly be worth it for mainly watching porn and movies as I haven't been gaming much at all.

I'm on an older Intel 6700k i7 processor on the Asus Z170 Deluxe MB and the latest upgrade I have is my Samsung 970 Evo Plus SSD I use for my C-drive.

Where for me I mainly watch mostly early 2000s-era porn like max hardcore and even older 80's porn like the Devil in Miss Jones and DeepThroat and those golden-age of porn classics. With most of my favorite OnlyFans content and newer 2023 porn not being shot in any resolution higher than 1080p; I'm still getting beautiful video on my older Nvidia1080 and I won't be downloading a lot of 4k porn even if I build a new PC. 

My taste in porn is 1080p being the very best resolution for me and what I always search to download first, with unfortunately many 480p videos in my collection (I also still enjoy).

The one thing I'm really curious about is the DLSS and if could be used to upscale older porn videos or if the tensor cores and ray tracing that make the 4000 cards so great, would have any application or impact on watching porn on my desktop PC connected to a high-end screen. And if anyone else has found that using their 2000 series - 4000 series cards and any of the tensor core features or DLSS made a noticeable difference in watching normal porn videos (besides VR porn) and what better place to ask than here.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on DSR in MPC, I never thought of using for anything besides gaming. DLSS is an AI model, that I am pretty sure is "trained" by nvidia prior to launch for every game, which is what game ready drivers are for. Unless you train your own model on every video or show, it wouldn't benefit you in any way. If you plan to upgrade to anything RTX, skip the 20 series completely since it performs worse than the 10 series in all scenarios except RT on, which IMHO is worthless. Maybe it's better now that DLSS 3.5 is out, but still. 30 is great, 40 is even better.

Looking into AI upscalers for videos, I stumbled across Waifu2x. Not DLSS, but it is an ai model meant to upscale videos, It may be what you're looking for.

You covered all my questions and gave me some much-appreciated understanding of how DLSS is implemented and its use! I just had to finally replace my beloved Skylake 6700k with an Intel 12900k running on an ASUS ROG Hero Z690 motherboard. So now I'm just holding out for hopefully a 4080 Super to complete my upgrade... Thank You for helping me understand exactly what I will be gaining & what I won't be gaining!

The one thing I will add is there is some pretty good software out there now (my favorite being Topaz Labs Video AI) that specializes in AI upscaling low-quality video into HD or even 4K! And upgrading to an RTX GPU with Tensor Cores will be a significant bump in processing time and go a long way in making the software even more useful!

Also for us JAV lovers, there's more and more de-pixelation software that relies on AI and an RTX GPU will help there as well!

I remember PlanetFall!! I would see it advertised in my Infocom Passport. I played LGOP, HitchHikers Guide, Witness, & Ballyhoo, maybe one or two more but this was back when I was 10 or 12... But I loved Steve Meretzky and his humor. Him and Benny Hill might've been somewhat responsible for me getting into the Leisure Suit Larry games...

Zork was of course the shining jewel of all Infocom games but I never got Zork... I knew it was great and remember seeing the grey bricks and Zork 1, 2, & 3, and being a Tron fan it sure looked cool!

Just read Zork is listed in the Libary of Congress as one of the 10 most important Games in Video Game History!

Might have to get a decent emulator and try it for myself one day...

And yep I'm currently using the latest Topaz build from RUTor after I tried several other pirated versions from 1337x and they were okay but I hate using cracks that come with patches etc, and they seemed to always have something broken, where the repacks on RUTor work seamlessly and they keep the versions updated every new release.

I started out using the free Topaz trial/beta versions but they were so throttled and with the giant hard-coded text over whatever video you process I couldn't use it even understanding it was only for evaluation purposes.

And I know hackers can thwart even the most secure PCs but I always pay for a good premium Internet Security Package from being a Kaspersky fan to now Bitdefender alongside my MalwareBytes Premium. And not using my computer for much other than gaming & porn and so forth, I don't have too much to lose.
I usually do a completely fresh install of Windows 11 once about every 6 or 7 months just to keep my computers running at their best since Windows XP days.

Hellmoo was a new name for me, and one I had to Google but it sounds like I just missed out on some fun times. Was it as raunchy as the Wikis say it is? I've been engrossed in Baldurs Gate 3 since early, early access, and CP2077...

But I love the fantasy RPG genre and Dragon Age Inquisition still usually gets a yearly playthrough... The Witcher 3, etc,,, takes me back to the Choose Your Own Adventure book days...

I play a few adult games like Summertime Saga, Seeds of Chaos, etc over on F95Zone.

But definitely cool to meet another Infocom passport holder; who could help me out with my NVidia and AI questions... and tbh I might have a few more coming up... :-)

That must be it... I use 1337x. We sound pretty similar in our PC habits, with fresh installs I mean. However, I usually procrastinate by starting large scale projects that I in turn procrastinate by starting new projects in a vicious cycle going down dev repo holes and avoid installing windows again for as long as I can to preserve the data I'm hoarding but will never touch until my pc finally crashes and I lose it all anyway.

Yeah helmoo was down right nasty, the intro was actually disturbing, but reminded me of childhood among the other misfit deviants among detention. Later in the game it got really cool too, so it wasn't just a rude gimmick. I think it got forked and listed as infernomoo or something like that.

Adult games are like mining for diamonds with a chopstick in my experience. Seeds of chaos looks pretty interesting. I've been to f95 and renpy a few times, the only one I remember playing was called foot of the mountains, I didn't realize it was poorly masked incest until I was several chapters in and said fuck it, I'm this far in. Another fun rude game was Scarlet Maiden, a castlevania style game.

For baldur's gate I like the mods by 'reallylazyicarus'. Let's you be a succubus of sorts.

I'm actually EXACTLY the same way with my ReInstallation scheduling. Procrastinating lately till I have to reinstall. I have been better with backing up my favorite porn and so forth on my ongoing collection of Seagate External Harddrives. And backing up my settings and so forth for the apps I hate having to fine-tune all over again.

And yep adult gaming is really hit and miss especially in 2022-24. I mean let's face it the genre of adult pc gaming was always a thing really aimed to squeeze allowance money outta preteen/adolescent dudes same as our old 1-900 numbers and T&A movies like Porkys, Joysticks, Private School, Hot Dog, and Hardbodies, etc... I still remember searching through staticy UHF stations late-night till I could barely make out some boobies on the 1 or 2 UHF stations that played the movies uncensored and start the VCR recording.
But the games lately seem to have ramped up their focus on incest a 100 fold. With so many games set around school, or at home and mommy being "ntr'd" by her boyfriend or dad...  Although I can get Netorare and some of it can be pretty hot, the incest thing just screams made for kids under 18. And just seem to lack any originality/creativity...

When I got into F95zone games back in 2018 there were some great adult games of every genre & fetish, but so many get abandoned where that's another sore spot in adult gaming. I mean many times I'd get into a game, and it would look great or promising then 6 months into it the updates would start coming later & later, till a year or two in, and the creator just completely vanishes.

That's another reason even with the 1 or 2 really great games I wouldn't bother subscribing to any adult game Patreon. F95zone is good enough, to download, play, enjoy, and if I like a game leave some positive feedback to let others know it's a great game if they're looking for games to subscribe to. But even a masterpiece like SummerTime Saga has been in limbo without an update for over a year; with HUNDREDS of unhappy-pissed-off subscribers & even nonpaying fans complaining the creator DarkCookie is at this point just milking his fanbase and purposely dragging out this next "huge" update because he was making MILLIONS per year from his Patreon and when the game is complete, that income would be a wrap.

Where as good of a game as it is and as much I would love for this update to hurry up, I just don't have anything to complain about not being a paid subscriber... And for any adult game, you might be able to eke out over 8 hours of gameplay, it just isn't worth it to me personally; as a divorced Prior Service US Army Vet living on a shoestring budget... Where I'd rather splurge on a pizza or a big sizzling steak... to enhance my immersion.

I've been tempted to give it a go a few times scrolling through the most endorsed mods, but so far haven't modded Baldurs Gate too heavily... I have all my UNLEASHED mods and a nice depth/clarity reshade I like; the enhanced nude bodies, Daughter of Lolth Minthara Good Recruitment mod, No Romance Limit, and a few other QOL tweaks but nothing too extreme like how I plan to mod CyberPunk when I finally upgrade my GPU and finally give it a full playthrough.

Man, it's hard finding a 4080 Super GPU when I'm finally ready to upgrade. Especially hard to find anything at the suggested MSRP.

Best Buy is selling out as soon as they restock and my notifications when they are back in stock seem to always be slow or too late.


I've been Googling and picked up a few tips I'm starting to use now but would you have any advice or tips on how to score a 4080 Super (preferably an ASUS TUF, PRO ART, or Nvidia FE)??

Hey, better late than never, and I know how it goes where we don't login on a daily basis   And yep trying all the usual shops from Newegg to B&H Photo but they are FLYING out of stock as soon as the notifications go out... I've had 2 so far in my cart only to find out by the time I got to check out they were GONE!

So although I know the YouTube tech reviewers like Linus and Jayz2cents all had their negative reviews of NVIDIA and how these Supers were not worth the ridiculous pricing; none of the negative press seems to have done anything to hurt their sales.

and yep it's a shame EVGA is outta the gpu business for now, every card I had from 2004 till now has been EVGA. Their step-up program and everything was great! But from what I understand they really had all they could stand with NVIDIA's business practices and keeping them in the dark with new gpu's till the last minute and so forth.

I don't like the way Nvidia has gone crazy with the prices and took a lot of the fun of PC building or upgrading your PC with a new GPU. HardwareUnboxed summed it up pretty good when they said if you double the performance of the next-gen gpu's but you double the price as well the consumer doesn't feel like they're gaining anything like we used to when from generation-to-generation performance increased but prices were relatively in the same ballpark.

But when it comes down to it I just really want to try the new rtx features & tensor cores and so forth for myself. I like computers, and I want to try out the latest tech. I've waited since 2016 with my 1080 where now I don't want to just give up and buy a comparable 30 series card or one of the top AMD cards. I know the 7900xtx is a beast with traditional rasterization and 24Gb of memory, and have heard the Nvidia 50 series might be on its way as early as November 2024 (but most likely won't be widely available till 2025). But that 6 or 7 months at my age, even if the ray tracing performance is nearly tripled like some leaks indicate it could be just does nothing for me when you really want to slap a new card in and experience the hype of ray tracing and DLSS for yourself and I finally built a pc that is ready for it...

So long story short, I've got that gpu-fever... And man I cant wait to get my hands on one.

Anyway, thanks again my brother from our good old Infocom days, for at least letting me vent and talk some of this out with someone who knows this stuff and can probably understand... FINALLY GOT A 4080-S MSRP from Best Buy!!

I really wanted a 4080 Super FE reading these reviews & it having the smaller size etc. But I ended up going with the ASUS Tuf 4080 Super OC as it was the only thing I could find. 

Card should arrive on Saturday along with an open box 8TB Seagate external hard drive (I found for $117 hoping that's a decent price) I got it thinking about the size of these upscaled video files.

But wouldn't you know, after all the reading and YouTube reviews I watched; right after I bought my card I happened to read on Topaz VEAI forums that actually the AMD 7900 XTX and 7800XT are anywhere from 5 to 15fps faster in processing...
A. Because of larger VRAM
B. Also better optimization, after NVIDIA worked hand in hand with Topaz to develop I guess the instruction sets, NVIDIA turned around with the 40 series and went in a new direction basically abandoning those instructions that now AMD works seamlessly with.

So as you mentioned earlier might be checking out some of the other AI video-enhancing software. Dont know much about Avisynth but it might be another piece of software I eventually try my hand at trying to learn. I've seen some pretty clear QTGMC upscaled vids where maybe that's another route. But for now, can't wait to try this RTX Video Super Resolution!

And just all in all pretty happy, until November, when the 5000 series launch & blows away the 40xx cards; but oh well, I was good for years with my old EVGA 1080 & really just wanted to finally try Ray Tracing & these Tensor cores, etc for myself; so with this 4080 at least I feel like Ive joined the modern era.

Hey that's great news! Good to hear of you escapades paying off and I hope you get some awesome results.

Don't think about tech obsolescence too much; watch the Bates 4000, by the Onion, every time you think about the next big thing.

It sounds like a really decent price, but don't use it for anything irreplaceable. I have a couple 4tb seagates; one had a third of the write speed as the other and failed early, but the other one is great.

You're going to need some good compression to make even an 8TB drive hold much AI upscaled video. You may want to look into a RAID DAS. I have the Terramaster D5-300, and I get really good write speeds, for HDDs, with 2 4tb drives in RAID0 -I cheaped out and got WD reds, they absolutely CANNOT write and read at the same time. These DAS units are decently priced compared to the professional units and are hot swappable. They can also help protect you from product failure, since you can set up a striping with multi-drive parity through RAID5. You need at least 3 identical disks, but you get the speed and size increase of striping and security of being able to recalculate the data if one drive fails. I run 3 1TB NVME in RAID5 as my C drive (NVME C drives are allegedly a bad idea) I get one 2TB C drive at ludicrous speed and can rebuild the array if one breaks.
