How comes there is no MMORPG based Harry Potter yet
#1
The hp world could be a great seting for a MMORPG with all the spells, creatures it contains. There's is so much possibilities. The tricky part would be avoiding to have a story 90% in a magic school as a student, because it would be boring. But I'm sure it could be a great game, like SWTOR. Still don't understand why no game studio has tried yet

Same with Avatar the Last Air Bender, both wonderful settings for MMORPG's however, not only would it be hard to impliment a story, the rights to those franchises are probably just too expensive.

Definitely a rights issue. You should also consider that it takes like 5-10 years to make an MMO so maybe there is one in the works and they just don't want to over hype.

EA held the rights for the initial movie release games so they could theoretically want to make a MMO but they seem to be getting away from that model of games and would just pump out a microtransaction laden game.  Warner Bros interactive own the rights to all harry potter digital games at this point and they have no experience in making a MMO at this point.  The initial start up cost of something like that would be daunting at this stage.  However there is good news Portkey games (a subsidiary of WBI) is currently working on Hogwarts Legacy an open world RPG, so at least we get to play around in the wonderful world of JK Rowling.
