How did conspiracy theories become mainstream?
#1
Is anyone else’s Facebook feed filled with just garbage conspiracy theories from qanon and the like? These people are totally disconnected from reality. Have conspiracy theory propogators come up with better techniques to reach people, are people more gullible, or are there just more ways to reach people now? I am mystified but this phenomenon.

#2
the way that FB is setup is that it feeds into the us vs. them superiority complex that cospiracy theories thrive on

#3
Facebook and YouTube’s algorithms are certainly big culprits.

#4
Facebook algorithms to keep people engaged.

#5
the engagement algorithm goes by a different name.."echo-chamber, drive our users mad algorithm"

#6
Along with what others said
Netflix's documentary "Beyond the Curve" has some interesting bits with psychologists explaining part of the reason

#7
The media causes a lot of it

#8
I’d argue that the transition occurs when some amount of circumstantial evidence supports the conspiracy theory and proponents of the theory ignore the inconsistencies are write them off as unimportant.

#9
people are dumb

#10
It's like 90% Facebook and media, feeds people's weird theories and gives them a chance to connect and shit
