Is mega.nz safe as backup service?
#1
I'm curious as they say it's end-to-end encrypted. What service could you recommend for storing NSFW legal stuff in the cloud for?

#2
The short answer to your question is no, but then really nothing online will be

#3
The answer is no, somehow accounts can be taken down without any valid reason

#4
its alright for a backup but only for stuff you don't really care too much about. it should be safe for the most part as long as noone can copyright strike it.

#5
So as long I don’t share stuff and links it should be safe alright?

probably yes but if its something important i woudnt trust cloud storage

I would keep it on a flash drive and keep the flash drive safe

#8
I've seen far too many accounts get taken down for little to no reason so Mega is not safe for backups especially if they're nsfw

#9
Short answer is no. Long answer is a very risky maybe.

#10
Just add a bit more information and go search 'how to crack mega account and find porn' on this forum. make your own decision.

#11
If you're worried about losing the content just get an external hdd with encryption built in (WD mybook). It'll be fine to dissuade any casual person from seeing what's on it.

#12
No, not really accounts can be taken down randomly

#13
Why would Mega take down content if you don't share it? They say it's e2e encrypted which means they can't read the stuff in your folder but when you share

#14
If it's for your personal stuff, I think your concern of having it taken down probably doesn't apply afaik.

#15
No think its not safe

#16
If it's not meant to be shared, I would encrypt it yourself before you upload it. That should open more options for safe online storage.

#17
Mega is a good option but it's probably best to back it up on a external hard-drive.

#18
As a second backup, yes, but for me I always prefer make one or two external backups depending how important is the data.

#19
I wouldn't rely on mega, too many accounts get nuked without warning.

nothing is safe on the internet... Nothing
