Is rap evolving or getting worse?
#1
I'm mostly in to lyrical rap, but i have recently got into trap rap. I still dont know what to think about it.

#2
Both. I think it is definitely both. It’s now such a big genre it can go into so many different directions

#3
It's hard to say one or the other. It depends of your perception and certainly the generation we're from

#4
Getting worse tbh

#5
I really like some new artist but I think things always change, so it’s just natural that rap is going in different directions.

#6
Recently starting listening to japanese rap, and I think its evolving and getting better, this might differ from person to person though

mainstream rap has always been awful, from the corny dancey shit in the 80s, new jack swing in the early 90s, "jiggy" rap in the late 90s, "snap/southern rap in the early 00s, trap in the late 00s, drake-ish r&b+autotune shit in the ealy 10s, mumblerap now. but theres also always been lots of underground artists still killing it. specifically in NY theres kind of a renaissance happening with the griselda guys and all their affiliates and basically all the rappers that have worked with alchemist and dj muggs in the past 5 years.

just depends, some say rap might evolve

I think rap has gotten way worse. There's no real creativity in it, and I hear nothing but cuss words and crude lyrics repeated every few words. There's not even a full sentence or thought in them. And the music is just whatever they can put onto a synthesizer. But the stuff sells, and I don't get why.

#10
not easy to say, but i kinda still enjoy the old school gansta rap visit more than the vibes of this generation

#11
It got worse after getting better. Still better than the 90s where 'rap' was just older stolen songs spoken out loud.

#12
its definitely both. lots of different kinds but theyre bad too lol

#13
Definitely evolving wont you think so. imho.

I am glad you enjoy it

With the proliferation of mumble rapping I would have to say much much worse.

#17
like most things the mainstream stuff isnt usually grounbreaking but there will always be a new person to come through and change the game

#18
I think rap is going to start moving away from being the top genre in youth. Theres always going to be dumb and good parts of a genre, overall I don't think its necessarily dumbing down.
