Legitimately good horror films
#1
So, the only thing to actually scare me in the last 10 years was that Spanish horror film Rec. Legit creepy, and made me jump more than once.
I've noticed that horror films have gone kind of weird and meta in the last few years (like Midsommar, The Witch), and I'm not really digging them. Thoughts?

I’m in the same boat as you, a lot of these films that “Critics” are raving about are just ok films at best. I’d check out Sea Fever if you enjoy films the build up suspense rather than jump scares. All The color of space I rather enjoyed.

The Lighthouse (if you count it as horror)
The Void
Colour out of Space (though more of a popcorn horror than anything)

zombeaver is pretty dank

the conjuring

I feel like a lot of films that were highly rated by critics were rated that highly just for the sake of trying to push a new snobby type of horror, sometimes all we need is a few good jumpscares, who gives a fuck if it's basic, if you wanted more depth go watch an adventure film

the conjuring series are really good

I liked midsommar, feels fresh in a way. I would say its more suspense than horror tho.

?!

The Lighthouse was fucking cool.

Beyond the Black Rainbow was... interesting. Like STanley Kubrick crossed with John Carpenter.

It follows is the creepiest movie that has come out lately.

Not really jump scares, but super effective
