Maybe. I think if our goal is simply human survival outside of Earth we have some better options (extraplanetary colonies on ISS-like vessels, etc)

It will be our greatest achievement to date, yes. The hard part is making mars eventually inhabitable before we destroy earth first lol.

I would argue its a step towards humanity's greatest achievement which I believe would be the construction of a dyson sphere. It will enable us to go beyond our solar system with all of the energy harvested.

Everything is human kind's biggest achievement at the time.
The only one that can be our greatest ever is either going to be ascending from the forms we are bound to in our reality, or... completely wiping ourselves out.
(Which I suppose is technically the same thing).
