Marvel Versus DC Films
#1
Which company do you think had more impact on Hollywood or mainstream acceptance of comicbooks? Marvel versus DC? Iron Man (2008) versus The Dark Knight (2008)?

DC technically kicked off two comic book film periods, with superman in 76 bringing about comic book movies right up until the 90s fucked it up with things like spawn, steel and batman and robin. Then again in the 2000s with more serious comic book films, showing they dont just have to be goofy popcorn films.

Marvel used to only do the popcorn films (blockbusters, but not amazing films), like sam raimis spiderman trilogy and fantastic four ect.... blade was an exception haha

I wouldn't discount the Spiderman franchise as that was pretty important for mainstream appeal as Spiderman was always popular in other forms, but Fantastic Four was definitely disappointing. David Cronenberg opined "I don't think [directors] are making [superhero movies] an elevated art form. I think it's still Batman running around in a stupid cape. I just don't think it's elevated." while funnily directing "A History of Violence (2005)".

Marvel definitely has had more of an impact. Dark knight was more of a "film" where production and writing was very good whereas I feel like Marvel series is jus flat out entertaining.

DC Animated Movies just kept getting better and better.
