Disagree. Most shows are just dumping in nudity for ratings and its really annoying.

Most shows follow this formula to be "edgy" and "fresh":

- nihilistic jerk main character
- awkward humor
- swearing
- nudity

Most shows I find very cringeworthy.

Most shows follow the same cookie cutter pattern and are run by the same people at the top, so there's not a lot of difference in shows. But as far as nudity/sex scenes go, they're pretty much useless, as they don't drive the action. Sex scenes are generally gratuitous and don't serve an actual purpose in any given piece of medis, except for porn, where they are the object. There isn't much forbidden in regular media (even the French have explicit sex scenes in their general public films), so sex scenes prove their uselessness.

From people I've talked to in the industry, most actors and actresses sign contracts forbidding the production of sex scenes. Then, the producers and directors try to force them to do sex scenes, no matter what their contracts and agents say. They put on fuck tons of pressure, especially if the actors are younger. And they try to make the underage actors do it, too. If the producers and directors are successful in forcing them to do the sex scenes, most of the time, they won't be in the movie, and will disappear into several personal libraries, to be shared among certain priviileged people. And then extrapolate what I said, apply it to Nickelodeon, and come to the natural logical conclusions.

It only works if they make it work, meaning stop forcing random sex scenes, or nudity just to get viewers. It's bullshit. Look at Breaking Bad, had like what? 1-2 sex scenes and no nudity either.

I agree that most sex scenes in movies and TV are gratuitous and unnecessary. Everything in a production should drive the plot, and there's very few times an explicit sex scene (as opposed to implying/stating the sex occurred) is needed to do so. One example that comes to mind is Game of Thrones. In that kind of medieval society (based loosely on medieval Europe), sex and power in the nobility are closely related, so the inclusion of sex scenes between some of the characters makes sense there. But that's an outlier, and not even a very good example.

To me Game of Thrones' nudity got to be annoying after a while. In the beginning it added to the depth of the world and matched the dark side of the politics and double-dealings, but the problem is the show ultimately never reached any conclusion about this. It accepted the bleakness of its world and didn't bother to give a satisfying ending, making all of it seem overall nihilistic and unappealing.

I think that was the point of Game of Thrones. A completely nihilistic and terrible game that those in power play with each other. It's just really hard to have a gripping and spellbinding show based on ugly shit that royals probably still play with each other to this day. Eventually, you see it for what it is, and people hate it. That's why they usually keep this shit from us commoners. And when commoners actually genuinely get mad, ropes usually come out.

Hoillywood producers and directors prefer nudity and sex scenes because they're easier to make than actual on-screen relationships. (The private porn part notwithstanding.) One of the more telling non-sex scenes that stood in for a sex scene (and affected on-screen relationships) was in the movie The Enforcer (the 3rd Dirty Harry movie), where his completely inexperienced female partner basically tells him in a roundabout way that she wants him. The scene ends with them heading off to get some drinks. That implied sex was a whole lot more powerful than an actual sex scene, because it affected how the two characters interacted with each other in subsequent scenes. This is far more powerful than two people stripping nude and getting it on.

tl;dr Hollywood is out of ideas so badly that sex and nudity are their saviors, which are rapidly losing their power to save Hollywood.

I agree with this point and it's kind of the same as action scenes. I recently saw Terminator 2 and was so impressed by how much high-quality action the last part of the film had but also how natural it was and character and plot-driven.

In contrast, most action scenes now are a jumbled mess of big stunts, crazy camerawork, fast cutting, loud noises, all of which is meant to be spectacle but has absolutely no emotional content whatsoever.

I like the sex scenes when it serves a point in the story; sometimes it’s just for fan service. If Tyne by story build up is good and it includes sex then I’m okay with it. But when it’s just mindless fucking then I’m not really interested.
