Old p2p programs as sources
#1
So, nowadays people just use library genesis (great!) or torrenting (shit) for grabbing books, but I noticed that if I can't find a book, one useful tool is the old p2p programs like Soulseek (slsknet.org).
These programs are generally not very fast and outdated (e.g. security), but some have maintained large followings (soulseek has a bunch of music nerds on it and is surprisingly good in its specialisation).

As people tend to just share their file folders, the programs also pickup books (and other content). More than once I've been unable to find something on libgen but grabbed it off soulseek.

Feel free to use this thread to mention other old-school p2p resources that are still useful.

Believe it or not IRC is still a good resource for finding paywalled content and books. There are servers with either moderated or auto-gen DL links for requested content.

Yes! I've used it to get some textbooks, among other things, before. There's a good guide on Reddit somewhere on how to leverage this, I think.

There was freenet that I was browsing a few years ago, most I got was funny memes, but yeah soulseek is wonderful for music and even other stuff. Managed to find the show Chowder on it, as it was nowhere else to be found.
