Physical media of games gone forever
#1
I was rummaging through my old stuff and found boxes for Counter Strike 1.6 and Source from way back in the day. I thought it was funny that at one point you could buy DVDs with these games on them. Do you guys think its risky now that the vast majority of video games are only available for download? I feel paranoid at times that one day it's all going to disappear and we won't have physical backups for anything. There's tons of lost media now because of this, and I wonder if it'll be a big deal in the coming decades since we are so used to non-physical transfers of media.

Getting games only as download is always risky. If the publisher want's he can restrict the access whenever he wants. Hasn't EA or Ubisoft done this a few weeks ago?

Whenever i can, i buy games from gog. Those games are at least DRM free and the installers can be safed localy.

I wish I'd kept the big box editions of stuff from the 90s, just for nostalgia's sake
