Power Scaling in TV/Movies
#1
So this might just be me, but im always immeasurably disappointed when power is understated or condensed into a more comprehensible scale. For example: The Infinity Stones. Now I shouldnt have to say much for this but Thanos could have done far more to the universe with just the reality stone alone. The time stone is probably the most OP of them all (and it gets a pretty okay showing of its power in the doctor strange movie). The space stone is on par with the reality stone in terms of just pure power by manipulating the fabric of space. Thats just 3 of the 6. Any single one of them would have been more than enough. The avengers wouldnt even stand a chance with the exception of Wanda, Strange, and Captain Marvel.

Its not just marvel either. Sci-fi shows or movies often depict their super advanced technology doing the same or less in terms of destructive capability compared to our current technology. Like are you telling me these anti-matter warheads cause LESS damage than a single primitive nuclear fission warhead????

I get, a lot of people probably couldn't comprehend the scope of such technologies or concepts but i dont think we should shy away from using them more. It feels like lazy writing to just nerf the power of something down to a more digestible level instead of writing the world with such interactions in mind.

Quote: It feels like lazy writing
It's not that it's lazy writing so much as it's that the original script went through some form of what's called "Production Hell", where a script is re-written a bunch of times by multiple professional writers that don't talk to each other, because the executives think they know what they're doing, and think that their ideas will sell. So they mess with stuff until they're happy. This is why Hollywood is out of ideas. And that's why you get such cognitive dissonance as you're describing in a movie.

Its all about making the money for as long as you can, If the flash for example used his full speed even on season one of his show then he would've defeated pretty much every villain. Ofcourse there are speedsters who are much faster at the time of their meetings but the shows rogue gallery is mainly dudes with no powers able to stop someone running faster than the speed of light.
