Basically, if we don't do it, it would mean a default on US debt, which would crash the dollar, but on the other hand, the country keeps borrowing more and more money

Don't forget that there was a lawsuit about 20 years ago stating that approximately 4 quadrillion USD had been stolen by certain banking families, and sought to get it back. Four hours after the story was published, the reporter's family was strangled to death by a old nanny that went bezerk. In other words, this "debt ceiling" bullshit is smoke and mirrors and the lie that our "representatives" are paid (or blackmailed) to promote so that certain families can control the U.S. I only know a small portion of the history of the U.S. But if you read it, you'd realize that none of us are free, and we haven't been in well over 100 years.
