Does anyone have helpful hints on how to play the game prior to chapter 4?  Thanks.

Go to settings and set tap functions to hold. It makes it so you don't have to keep mashing a single button and can just hold the key, helps a ton when it says keep clicking Shift due to a windows option to set sticky keys popping up because you kept clicking SHIFT in quick succession. This also helps immensely in online if people try to melee you.

Dont bother saving money, if you have enough for something you want just buy it.

Do all the side missions you run into on your way, craft split point ammo regularly, use cover all the time, try to get out of the habit of spamming dead eye, upgrade all the weapons you like, clean your guns regularly, if you are having troubles aiming for the head try aiming for center of mass or the legs because they can micro stun the enemy, you can end duels mercifully and try help people in random encounters even if your going for an evil playthrough cause you may be rewarded for your good deeds.
