I would read the book over the original film. The film did the best it could with it’s budget and tech restraints but that could only do so much. This remake looks like it may finally give the book the film debut it deserves

The book is one of the Sci-Fi classics - a great read if you're into the genre. Wouldn't bother with the sequels though, they drop off sharply.
