Thought on the Dune movie?
#1
Is there a lot of excitement/interest about the Dune adaptation coming out this year? It's only an adaptation of the first half or so of the first book; I'm concerned that if it flops they won't bother with a second movie.

There's no way in hell that they can top the original. Feels like this film will be watching a disaster in slow motion.

I thought Villaneuve did a good job with Blade Runner, but it flopped. Quality doesn't seem to matter like it used to.

Imo the original wasn't super good. The vfx in this one will be way ahead so it would be worth a watch. I hope they do a good adaptation of the story though.

BR 2049 was an amazing piece of film, and is one of the great movies of this century. But the general public is both over-entertained, and has a generally lower IQ, as compared to 1982, when the original BR came out. I didn't realize Villanueve was making the Dune remake, so it has a chance of being decent. But if they went full woke with their casting, then throw the film out, because woke casting will destroy any film.

Really looking forward to it. I've not seen the original, but the trailer matches what's in my head from the book.

#7
It was okay, not my type of movie

#8
if the movie is as good as the trailer, we're in a pretty good spot?

Trailers show all this is good, and hide all that is bad. Trailers can be false advertising.

I'm excited for it. The cast looks great and I'm a big fan of Villenueve's work

#11
can't wait for this. surprised its not going to be a 3+ hour movie though.

#12
It looks good, I wonder if it actually is.

#13
Im looking to watch it, following this thread

i think it will be a really good film that 80% of the population wont see because it doesnt have superheroes or haunted dolls

I trust Denis Villeneuve with adapting the unadaptable. His adaptation of the short story "Story of Your Life" into "Arrival" is proof of that for me.

Cautiously optimistic, the cast and Villeneuve are great but the book is a notoriously difficult thing to adapt. Are they doing it as a two-parter? Or are they trying to adapt the entire book in one film?

The plan is to do the first book as a two parter, but if the movie one doesn't do well they might not make the second one.

Now, the thing is, who has read the book?

#19
I'm definitely going to see it but I won't have too high hopes

I've just finished reading Dune... and reading up on the movie. It is a shame they are splitting the book in two (as most the true ACTION and storyline is in the latter half). Looking forward to the movie regardless.
