I need to record some video conferences with a screen capture style software.  What do you use? I know game at comes with windows but it’s not doing everything we need sometimes.

OBS is my go to as it can do everything I need. It can be configured a lot and it's free.
There are also tons of guides on Youtube and elsewhere if you need to do something specific with it and don't know how to best do it.

Pretty sure that gimp does the job clean ?

AMD ReLive or NVIDIA ShadowPlay are also options depending on your graphics card.
