Funny games is pretty messed up but not in like a graphic way. More in just mentally fucked up in how the bad guys affect the movie. I can't say much more without spoiling it.
Also the mist. That ending is just fucking heartbreaking and gur wrenching.

I disagree. The books contained all the shit details that the editor couldn't squeeze into the shit film that they filmed and released. Which means that all the extra shit we didn't want to see was kept off the screen and in the books. And the books kept womens' attention more than the movies did. Which means it kept them silent and busy a lot longer. Which is a plus for all married men.
