the movie got progressively more sad. but i guess the ending reflects what the mom was saying, "when you get cancer you die, but it's not the cancer that kills you, it's the fear" it's illegal to not be honest about health info in the US. but other cultures embrace the practices in this movie and keep serious news a secret, so in a way the ending supported the cultural practice because Nai Nai is still alive after 6 years.
