What do you think professional sports will be like in 20 years?

Speaking from an American perspective, I think worldwide soccer will always be king.

20 years ago I feel like baseball was much more popular, I'm surprised games are still selling out to be honest. But I know my local little leagues are shrinking. American Football might be more mainstream now, but youth participation is also down. Are the MLB and NFL going to have to adapt somehow or will there always be enough top end talent to keep it going?

Hockey and basketball have always kinda had their solid core and been growing slowly. I don't know if I see too much changing there. Hockey is trying to expand beyond the traditionally cold markets but it might have the same problems with football in terms of getting kids involved without getting hurt. Soccer has always been popular with kids and has been supposed to become big since the '94 World Cup...is it finally going to happen?

Is another sport going to come along and enter the mainstream? Do E-Sports count?

Esports just isn’t that popular for the general Americal population. It’s definitely growing but I think physical sports will stay ahead.

Physical sports will dominate

NBA is by far the most popular worldwide, and growing the fastest out of the big 4. it also doesn't cost as much for parents to get their kids into.

i don't know what new sport will come along but in terms or fixing what we have, in 20 yrs i hope we have automated/robot referees and more cameras so we can see literally everything at any angle.

My fear is that you won be able to recognize baseball in the next 20 years. I HATE the runner on second extra innings rule and I feel like that’s just gonna lead to more unnecessary changes. On the bright side, I think you see guys throwing 110 in the next 20 years.

The nfl will probably be unrecognizable. Just look at it today and then at the 80s. It’s like a different sport.

There's gonna be an absolute fuck load of emphasis on safety

I honestly think cycling is going to have a slight resurgence. I also think with the phasing out of cable TV, large leagues are going to see competition from a lot of smaller local leagues as local sports scenes grow in physical attendance and less people can withstand watching the same thing regularly sitting in front of a TV. The foundation for that kind of tradition is deteriorating.
