True Detective Season 1 is amazing. I never had the opportunity to watch the other seasons but the first one its own contained story and I couldn't recommend it higher!

Agreed with OF above, Sherlock is definitely up there as one of the best detective series - if not one of the best shows in general with how highly it's rated around. Some people will hate on it for seasons 3 and 4, but watch it with a fresh perspective in mind and see if you enjoy it!
