For me it's Godzilla 1954. A genuine masterpiece but my love for Godzilla goes beyond just what movie I like. It's a little deeper than that. I feel attached to him. I feel loyal. Not that every version is equally good. Recent Toho incarnations lack personality and pathos.

The recent Godzilla movies lack anything of substance. They're great cgi, but that's it. They follow the Hollywood formula too much.

New Godzilla movies are just about the fights, fuck the storylines. I really liked the Space Godzilla arcs, and the old Godzilla vs Monster Zero arcs.
