Racing games are a staple of any arcade. Their large cabinets line the walls, begging to played.

Most racing games are car based. Yet, one non-car based arcade will always hold a special place in my heart. That racer is Hydro Thunder. Most arcade racers utilize foot peddles and a stick shift for speed controls, while Hydro Thunder featured just a hand throttle. The throttle combined with the lack friction due to the water tracks made controlling the game completely different than other racers. I would usually come in first place versus strangers in the arcade due to the finesse needed of the controlls. It gave me a great sense of accomplishment.

I can’t remember the name of them, but I always loved the motorcycle ones that had a replica motorcycle you could sit on. It was pretty fun to steer by leaning it and at the arcade in my town it was cheap for how long you actually got to play.
