As far as I'm concerned, the step-sibling narrative is a cowardly cop-out so the actors can get way with saying "brother" or "sister" without being labelled as incestuous. As someone who plays a lot of visual novels (and a lot of CK2 and 3), the concept of blood-related siblilngs or cousins or whatever is fine to me. I'm used to it and appreciate it for its taboo allure.
I'd rather western porn just stop pretending like they have morals and just go all out if they want to have siblings together. Step-siblings are boring unless their status as step-siblings is actually important to the plot in some way.
