What theory did you develop during a movie that turned out to be completely wrong?
#1
The first time I watched a movie called Nocturnal Animals was one of the craziest experiences I had while watching a movie, all because I so very wrong my theorizing.

I went into the movie practically blind, only knowing the title and that Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Armie Hammer are in it. Less than ten minutes into the movie, Amy Adams’ makes a comment to her current husband that she hasn’t seen her ex-husband in 20 years. This line stuck out to me. I starting to ask myself how old is Amy Adams’ character supposed to be, and even thinking about how old Amy Adams is in real life. I almost googled Amy Adams’ age, but then decided against it. As I continued to watch the movie, I thought about the 20 year line, the title of the movie being Nocturnal Animals, all the scenes up to this point being set at night, and Amy Adams’ character being very pale. Something clicked in my head, making me almost certain that it would be revealed that Amy Adams’ character is a vampire.

A few asshole characters that were causing trouble were introduced into the story, starting to make me doubt my theory. I thought if Amy Adams’ character was a vampire, why she didn’t go full vampire mode on the assholes to get out of the situation. As the movie went on, I had another click moment. I concluded that the asshole characters were going to be revealed to be werewolves, and that they knew that Amy Adams’ character was a vampire.

From this point on, my mind kept picking up on moments and lines of dialogue that I thought for sure were foreshadowing to the fact that Amy Adams’ and Armie Hammer’s characters were vampires and that the asshole characters were werewolves. Particularly, a flashback scene to Amy Adams’ character and her mother made it seem to me that they were eluding to the idea that the mom was unhappy that Adams’ first husband, Gyllenhaal’s character, was a human and not a vampire like they were. During the last ten minutes of the movie is when I came to the conclusion my hair-brained theory was completely bullshit. With most of the movie being set a night, I was still hoping to be proven right with a full moon appearance and for one of the asshole characters to transform into a werewolf, but it never happened. On the Brightside, the anticipation made watching an already good movie even more entertaining. It was one hell of a rollercoaster ride.
