Any cool bands or artists to check out? I've been getting so bored with the typical stuff that I've gone back to my middle/high school era stuff like random ass nu-metal bands, 311, deftones, etc

I suggest you explore other genres too. Some classic jazz hits are a great start and you could see if you like those. If you like some metal bands I suggest try to listen to Babymetal and Bring me The Horizon. Also, this is just really me projecting hahaha but you can trt to check Jack Stauber, dude's been inactive but the weirdness and uniqueness of his music has really piqued my interest.

I have a hard time recommending artists because I tend to like individual songs a lot more than I like artists or albums unless I really like them. Hard to give accurate recommendations without knowing your taste but here’s stuff that I would generally recommend. I appreciate lyrics so most recs will reflect that.

Idles: British “post punk”, honestly I like their whole catalog. Their album Crawler got me into them. Songs: Mother, Donny Nedelko, Beachland Ballroom

Viagra Boys: Too hard to classify so I’ll say experimental jazz punk. Songs: Girls and Boys, Worms, Slow Learner

Mt Joy: indie, the more indie I’ve listened to the bland it’s become but something about this band and the first album will always be special. Some form of subtle melancholy. Songs: I’m your wreck, Mt Joy, Cardinal

I’m currently in a country phase (something I never thought possible) so these next recommendations will reflect that.

Colter Wall: Outlaw Country, voice deep as Johnny Cash, real cowboy as come. Every album is 80-90% good. Songs: Caroline, Kate McCannon, Thirteen Silver Dollars, Sleeping on the Blacktop

Tyler Childers: Country, part of country’s renaissance is due to him. Voice as beautiful as his writing. Songs: Nose on the grindstone, Shake the frost, feathered Indians

Sturgill Simpson: outlaw country/classic rock, it bewilders me he’s not bigger. Easily one of the most innovative country artists. The album Metamodern Sounds in Country Music is a masterpiece. Songs: Turtles all the way down, voices, sing along

Hip Hop:

Isaiah Rashad: Cilvia demo is perhaps my favorite album ever. Songs: West Savannah, Heavenly Father, Nelly

Terrell Morris: Similar vibe as Zay, chill and thoughtful. Lavender is a near perfect album. The intro goes so hard. Songs: Winterfalls, Lavender, Toi

Smino: few rappers can compete his linguistic dexterity and creativity. Songs: Innamission, L.M.F, Anita

Death Grips: you’ll love or hate them. Took me awhile to like them. Songs: Death Grips (next grips), Hustle Bones, I’ve seen footage.

I am getting lazy to here’s the last few recs
Zach Bryan: country, heartfelt lyricist
John Cragie: Folk, Songs: Part wolf, I am California
Nujabes: peak hiphop producer. Songs: Feather, Arurian Dance
Open Mike Eagle: hip hop. Brick Body Kids still Daydream. This is the only album I like but it bangs.

There’s a lot I’m skipping because I think they’re obvious but I don’t know what you listen to. Anyway, hope you enjoy.

@thelittlefox22 Great recommendations!

I'm familiar with a few of these artists actually and the rest I'll definitely look into.

I started to check out Colter Wall and I realized I actually recognize him bc he's a nepo baby of a politican up here in Saskatchewan lol but wow, his voice is unreal though

Love Isaiah Rashad, love Death Grips (yuh!), love IDLES (most things punk or punk adjacent honestly) and will definitely check out the rest!
