At this point it's just a cliche and everyone's putting it in the title to fit in (may be there's some search algo thing going on as well, not sure). But I can see why it gained popularity at first: it's sorta relatable (divorce and remarrying in US is getting a LOT more common), it's taboo enough to be exciting but "WE'RE NOT BLOOD RELATED" sidesteps any legal issues, and it offers a nice setup on why these random hot strangers would suddenly be living together.

And yes, I'm hella tired of it, I just mentally block out the family dynamics part. Most of these step-sibling plots can be swapped out for roommates and there'll be no effect on the plot at all.

It was a trend that worked for a tiny amount of people then others started doing it too.
The porn industry is just like any other marketing structure; people put products out, see how the consumer reacts to it, then capitalizes on it.

Take Belle Delphine for example.
