Who do you have winning the College Football Playoff?

Besides like, Bama and Georgia.

I think Oregon's not as good but just might have the explosive plays needed to beat them - since teams are sure as hell not gonna drive on Georgia.

Just a crazy year--too hard to tell, though 'Bama is a good bet.

I think Oregon is in. I think Oklahoma and ND will trip up before things are all said and done, so maybe you get Georgia and a B1G East representative in there (PSU? Michigan? OSU isn't out of it, and even Michigan State has a shot if things break their way).

sadly bama still looks the best imo

As for the Big Ten East, I think OSU is the only school with the talent to win it all, but I think PSU or Michigan will win the division. Somehow OSU just hasn't meshed this year,

OSU is all out of sorts on the defensive side, and it looks like they're benching their quarterback in all but in name...who knows if they can get it together...

PSU is bound to screw up with Franklin leading the way but then he could go to USC...don't look now, but Michigan has about equal 5 star talent on the defensive side of the ball as OSU with high 4 just about everywhere else...we will see how Michigan looks against anyone with a pulse but it could be a special year for them

This year's college football is a mess. But, at the end of the season, I suspect that last year's top 10 will be the same for this year. That's bugging me. A lot.

Eh. Michigan (and PSU) have pretty much equal talent composite based on recruiting rankings, and neither are close to OSU. We're comparing 832 (or 820) to 985 here. Raw talent-wise, not really a comparison.

I'll believe Michigan when I see it. Hell, they have less conference championships under Harbaugh than PSU does under Franklin.

Sorry, ran out of likes for the next 14 Goddamn hours, but you make so many good points...I think OSU's talent is concentrated on offense, and to make things worse, their DC situation is horrible right now...but you are totally right about total talent on PSU/Michigan...I think Franklin is a total joke who backed into his success thus far--a recruiter and little else....that said, I have real trouble explaining Harbaugh's struggles...Michigan really needs to prove it this year, starting with Wisco and with a MUST win at MSU and at least competitive games against PSU and OSU

That's easy. Harbaugh is a better pro coach than a college coach. They thought he was one of those guys that could coach both, like Pete Carrol. The problem is that he isn't all that good at motivating college guys. He's used to the top-down format of the NFL, which is why he was as good as he was when he was there. Two different styles of coaching, and most are good at one or the other. Other examples include Bill Callahan and Bo Pelini.

Bama has been the most consistent program for so many years, this is sick. They lose plenty of talent to the draft on every year, but they keep winning games and being top contenders nonetheless

Arrow Any like will be much much appreciated guys. Cheers ! Sick

What do you mean by top down?

By top down, I'm referring to the top-down command structure of the NFL. The coach makes their guys do things. Players in the NFL are motivated by money, so there's less team cohesion, which requires a top-down command authority to get stuff down. That's why you sometimes see rivals on any given team fighting over who gets the ball: because that potential touchdown brings in extra money, per their contracts. Money changes how you do things.

In college, players are there because they want to be at that school. The coach is in command obviously, but there is a true team atmosphere. You're fighting for your school, which is akin to fighting for your country in an actual genuine righteous war. Coach tells them what to do, and they all work toward that goal. If you get a good coach (Pete Carroll at USC), you're going to have something closer to family that fights together. Money isn't a factor, but school pride, and pride in your team. The top-down formula generally doesn't work in college. See Lane Kiffin as an example of why top-down doesn't work at the uni level.

Notable exceptions to the top-down include the '72 Steelers. They were a true team. But that was when you had a real job and the NFL was your moonlighting job. I don't see much of that past the middle '70s in the NFL.

I don't think so. Seemed like disaster weekend for the Top 25.
