I was thinking about how much QBs make and how much the NFL focuses on them as the center of the sport, but think about it—when backups get put in, often they do perfectly well. If the starter retires, or if the backup is young, often it ends up being the beginning of a career for the backup. At the same time, starting QBs have awful seasons, injuries etc. all the time.
From what I've seen, I feel like you could replace all the QBs with their backups one week, and mostly the league would run fine. I'm not saying the greats aren't great, but is the talent difference really worth the salary difference?
