I'm not sure what buttholes you've been around, but every time I've had anal intercourse with my wife or girlfriends before her, it wasn't a shitty experience.  I originally thought it would be messy, but so far so good.  I don't prefer it, and I've only done anal with 2-3 different women, but nothing too horrible to report.  To me, anal is tougher to perform as it takes a bit to get her to fully open up so it will fit, but it is tight.  I can actually go quicker with anal due to the tightness factor.  Not a power thing with me at all.  I would be happy to never do it again, and have never initiated or asked for it, but it isn't bad at all.
