Largest pot bust in Bay Area history
#1
Quote:Sheriff’s deputies raided 18 locations in the Bay Area's biggest marijuana bust. Law enforcement seized hundreds of thousands of marijuana plants, 12,000 pounds of processed product ready for for distribution, and more than a dozen weapons, including handguns, rifles and shotguns.

What the heck....I thought it was legal now....

The reason they busted them is because this is an operation that isn't registered with the state. Mj growers have to get a business license, pay their fees, etc, so they can run a business. We have a ton of people that have small mj businesses, but these guys were making major money. And considering the weaponry found, I would say that this operation was probably a cartel run operation. They're still selling weed in this state, even though anyone can go down to a pot shop and get whatever strain of mj they want. You can even get delivery, just like Domino's!

The cartels use CA as their base of operations to sell weed to the rest of this state. They de facto run parts of BLM/National Park land where they grow weed openly. There are great profits to be made in the states where weed is still illegal. If you go hiking in certain places, you'll see open fields with weed, guarded by guys with AKs.

The cops made this bust, but there are probably multiple tractor trailers full of weed ready for shipment.

Same reason the mob won't go legit. Why should they pay taxes and be subject to regulations, when they can keep the profit all for themselves? Very ironically, the cartels were against legalization, because it would hurt their profits. If every state made it legal, the cartels would be forced to exit the U.S. market altogether, crushing a large amount of profit. And the CIA wouldn't get their cut.

The economics of it, even with protection and money laundering, must be incredible for them not to go legit...

The profits are enormous, and their costs are extremely low. And they don't have to worry about labor because they have slaves to work the fields. And with CIA/DEA protection, they're set for life. Money makes the world go 'round.
